The plants in the stores have tiny leaves and no flavaaa!! I have some tropical seeds - orange seed nuts from a palm (think it is a queen palm), fire tree (Delonix regia), and air plants (tillandsia).

I found some at Walmart today for $4-$5 dollars. That whole section smelled wonderful. I just wish they would keep their plants watered. It hurts me to see plants die just because they are not watered.

Were they Bonnie's plants? I have had such bad luck with Bonnie's plants that I will never buy from them!

Going to Walmart next week. I'll check. I bought a plant from the local Italian grocery. the leaves smelled alright, but the plant has little leaves and no flavor.

Picked up Genovese Basil seeds at Home Depot. they germinated and survived the first torrential FL rain of the season. They are too tiny to taste.

Basil grows quickly, so if you can find seeds you like, plant them and you'll be making pesto in no time at all.

They have the second set of leaves. The seedlings nearly drowned during a recent rain - it is the rainy season in FL - but perked up. Too soon to see how they taste.

I am also looking for big leaf basil for cooking. In South Carolina, right now I have sweet basil but it is currently either getting burnt or eaten up by bugs

I planted Genovese basil seeds from Home Depot in a pot. they are small, but growing. The leaves taste like the basil I want. Everything is growing slowly now even the coleus, perhaps the heat slows things down?

I lived "up north" until recently. Gardening "down here" is a whole other world! I am currently staying with a friend in Boca Raton, looking for my own place. It is so expensive and unfriendly here, I am widening my search to SC. I would be happier in a house in a friendly neighborhood than a condo complex. Former neighbors who moved to the Summerville, SC area outside Charleston are very happy. I planned to find my own place this summer and rescue my furniture and belongings from storage before winter. Life is not proceeding according to plan.....

I miss having a garden. I currently have a couple pots, some air ferns and a growing collection of tropical seeds gleaned in my travels...

You should try lemon basil next year. It smells like Fruity Pebbles. As weird as it sounds it is great on pizza Lovey dubby

Good luck, Andi. I hope you can find the perfect place. It took us 8 years to finally find the place we wanted.
