No surprise to find a scape on Tribal Council. Ever since it came here, it usually puts up the first scape but sometimes is not the first to bloom. We are in the midst of lots of storms rolling through and my inspection this morning showed no damage to the plants, but we have a long way to go with this system that will not clear until tomorrow. In the meantime, maybe a picture of the Red Ruffles azalea with a spiderwort in front will brighten everyone's day.

Just want to add a P.S. I forgot to say that the Abundant Daylilies order arrived last Thursday. All DLS look pretty good. We received Viva Las Vegas, Blue Viper, Blue Buzz and Carolyn Mersiovsky.

Spiderwort looks nice with the azalea. I have spiderwort all over the place, have to dig clumps up, but I tend to let them bloom a while then move them to the back of the lot in the tree line. They look so good in the spring.

Spiderwort is a weed down here! If snowbirds don't have a lawn service, there are a lot of lovely blue blooms in their yard come spring.

on the pretty blooms. Spiderwort seem to pop up in many unwanted places here also.

Congrats on your first scapes. I'm envious, but very excited to find three bearded Iris scapes yesterday!!! April showers are definitely going to bring May flowers here in CT!!

Here's an update on Tribal Council. There are now five scapes with some color showing on the buds. Also, Miss Victoria has about sixteen scapes on two plants. Last night I found a scape on Caribbean Victoria Lace, just planted last fall, that's great. My seedling #7 Katherine Caldwell/Dragonfly Dawn has two scapes. Things are beginning to pop, that's for sure.

So now there are three scapes on Purple De Oro which arrived last year and did not bloom. It will be nice to see the first blooms on this one. There are three scapes on Stella's Ruffled Fingers and one scape on Malaysian Marketplace.

This one is from my Northern Lights daylilies order, received on the 25th of April and planted on the 27th. It's in the row of 36 inchers so could be Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, , Clownfish, Out of Balance or Digital Dynamics. All Gossards. I'm thinking it's probably Clownfish since it is the only early/midseason bloomer. Not one, but two scapes on this 3 fan plant. I'm amazed!

Rain, rain and more rain. I did go out this morning with a light sprinkle coming down after the downpours --2.24 inches in the rain gauge as of now. So I was thrilled to find so many new scapes coming on. Right now the leader of the pack is Lillian's Vapor Trail with at least 13 scapes, and I think Purple De Oro might have close to ten. There are many more just showing up and it's so fun to find them, a garden treasure hunt. However, with all this rain, we have no sun and I wonder how the plants will be affected as to blooming--time will tell.

Sounds like me last year (so far this year is going the same way). I had more bud drop last year than I ever had in over a decade of growing daylilies. I thought all the rain would be great for the garden but not really.

That being said, Avedon, you are in a much warmer climate so your plants might really like a respite from so much heat and sun. I think the further south you go the more plants appreciate extra water.

For those daylilies that ended up blooming the lack of sun didn't seem to bother them. Too bad I couldn't say the same for my tomato plants!

Oh what fun it is to go scape hunting. The new leader is Aniakchak with 16 scapes--second are the two Lillian's--Thin Ice and Vapor Trail tied at 14 apiece. My favorite Hanson--Two Sues--has put up 13 scapes and it is just starting its third year. Here's one of last year's pictures of Two Sues and I just realized I have never entered a picture in the Plants Database, will remedy that tomorrow.


Two Sues--the plant appears to be much bigger this year, could be because of the mild winter and lots of rain.

Caribbean Victoria Jewel may have its first FFE in a couple of days. I hope it can make it because the rain will probably start hitting us again on Wednesday.

Avedon that is a nice one.

Another foray into the garden day before yesterday revealed that Lillian's Thin Ice has now taken the lead with at least 20 scapes, talk about surprise; I hope we are coming to the end of this long rainy spell, and the flowers will have a chance to develop and bloom. But wait, there's more---I forgot about our small flowered daylilies and our two Siloam Double Classic DLS have more than 20 scapes apiece, so some day there may be some great clump pictures, sure hope so.

I have three scapes but they are all on plants that just arrived so I don't know if they count. Seedfork traded with me and his Carnival in Mexico and it came with a scape. Two of my daylilies from Heavenly Gardens have scapes Heavenly Prince of Hearts and Heavenly Doppler Effect. My own, I haven't seen anything yet but hoping within a couple of weeks I will start seeing something.

All my scapes are on new plants also. 7 out of the 11 last received, have at least one scape. Love it when you can positively ID a new plant early.

Just did garden check. All three Blueberry Trumpets (Sobek) purchased from Harmon Hill Farms (nicest people ever) last fall have scapes! Excited to see these blooms for the first time.





Now if these scapes stay up on the slope, I will have found a keeper. Of interest is the fact that these are planted where the Divertisement showed signs of probable spring sickness. I simply sheared off the crowns on those, and Blue berry Trumpets were actually planted amongst the leftover roots. No signs of spring sickness with these!

Tina, I agree with you about Harmon Hill Farms. I just got an email about my Pink Stripes daylily, new last fall that didn't come up this year. Carl Harmon is sending me another one!

The reason he's replacing the Pink Stripes is because they had divided the clump my plant came from, so thought it might not come back.

Not counting new DLs that scaped right away, my first scapes (tons of them) on an established plant showed up today on BIG BERTHA'S SISTER. Let the scape hunt begin!
