Hi there! Id like to share my journey of sweat and failed attempts to grow carrots over an inch and a halfs length with you all here. I share my journey in hopes of learning from you; advice and encouragement go a long way. I started my garden from scratch. I dug out 10 beds, ma y raised beds, only a few in the ground. I used the natural landscape to make to two tired garden, with a set of stairs build with rocks I dug up. I'll start with some rough pics of what I have going on. As i clean and plant I'll update with more. Thanks.

Ty! It does need to be gussied up a bit. As I clean this year I'm also putting a weed barrier down on all the walking areas. I'm tired of weed whacking 8n and around all the rocks I have in there. Tomorrow I'm starting in the top right corner looking out.after work I have lemon balm to plant and also have three strawberries for a hanging basket. Until then happy planting.

Two straight days of rain here in the 603. Not great playing in the dirt weather.

Ok here is what I've done thus far but the weather is wet and cold. This is home to lemon balm.

Nick-- I do not know if weeds and grass are a monster problem there or not. I have always had the best result with laying cardboard on the ground first...then the landscape fabric. Just a suggestion.

I like the look of the stones!

May you and your garden be blessed with success!

Yes weeds and grass are a problem. A double layer idea sounds like a great idea thank you. Instead of the original idea of mulching over the barrier, I'm going to stone the area rectangular and fill with dirt for extra gardening space. Small annuals for more color or something like that. We'll see. Thanks for your intrest in my garden.

Some updates to share. Not a lot of progress due to wet days. Debating either veggies or low height flowering perennials. It looks like a second deck above my garden bed. I had to beef it up so it would have some depth, only a few inches sadly. Thinking small shallow root systems here. The ground was sloped there, not good to work with.
Most of the weed barrier will either be mulched or some other type of finishing touches. Any thoughts?

Wow..tired just looking at all the work. Little by little. Cardboard is the best under the mulch. I prefer that over weed fabric. Good luck with your project.

Dream, if you can, a courtyard...

Super garden Nhnick! I used weed fabric and found it doesn't work for very long! The seeds that fly in and land on top always sprout by the end of the Summer. I noticed you have a gold mine of oak leaves In your first photos. I super grind those leaves with my mulching mower, and use them on my walking paths for weed barriers. Plus you can get very large carrots if you incorporate finely grounded leaves deep about 7 or 8 inchs in the soil during the fall. I add grounded composed leaves to everything in my yard for a source of carbon. Pretty much a jungle here.

Pole beans are growing nicely. I made similar trellises last season and they worked great!

Looking good! You must still have very cool temps there. I see a lot of early spring in your latest photo. I'm in Tex and Summer here is, 92 degrees yesterday. Thanks for sharing your garden, I love those trellises!!!
