Hello there everyone. Last year I bought an iris 'Dangerous Mood' and was so excited to see it bloom. It finally bloomed this year and it is NOT Dangerous Mood. I need some help identifying this cultivar. It is real pretty and very Eastery, so appropriate for blooming at this time. Thanks for your help!

Welcome! Steven,

sorry, I don't know what it is either. If you don't get any possible names here, and If you bought it from a vendor, you could look through their website to see if you can find anything that matches.

Unfortunately I bought it at Home depot and I was warned by other iris aficionados that buying from big box stores is risky because they often do not know the quality of what they buy and irises are much of the time mislabeled. I learned my lesson. I bought 2 others from Home Depot that have not bloomed yet, lets see if they are what they were labelled as.

Welcome! Steven,

Your iris might be Dancing on Air.

In my garden the intensity of the blue on the falls varies and fades as the bloom ages.

Dancing on Air has a sibling Party's Over which is similar but has less blue and less of the yellow band on the falls.

These are just a couple of suggestions and there will be other possible candidates. The only way to know for sure is to purchase the iris you think it is and grow them side by side to ensure that they are the same iris.

Totally amazing, I think it has been ID correctly! So fortunate. Beautiful modern Iris. I have one from Lowes. If it blooms this year I will try my luck. Maybe someone will know. Awesome. Hurray!

I think you are right, Dancing on Air looks just like mine with even the blush of violet on the fall. Thanks!!

I've read on this forum before, that a lot of the box store irises come from Schreiner's Iris. If you look at their website Dancinig on Air comes right before Danderous Mood on their website. I don't know if Schreiner's grow their irises in alphabetical order. Shrug!

Hi Everyone! I have just had the same experience and it's March 2024. Evidently the iris supplier has never updated their information. My sister works at Wal-Mart and will buy plants occasionally because they get marked down. We use them for landscaping knowing they may not be correct on the off chance that they are. We have over 300 named iris that are planted and mapped so these do not get put in the same place. Anyway, I found this thread and from my pictures that I took 15 minutes ago, my iris is definitely not Dancing on Air, unless the cultivar has evolved and switched colors! But I'm really happy with this one because both the yellow and purple have halos and the plant is at least 36 inches high with seven buds! The first bloom is very low so I will wait for another to see if it has a fragrance. Even if it's a NOID I think it's very pretty. I also have Kevins' Theme and Lullaby of Spring that may not bloom until next year but they may be similar. Anyone recognize one like this?

An update to my post of March 20th identifying a miss labeled iris from Walmart. I have since identified the iris as Gilt Edged Bond. It is just a beautiful iris if you ever get a chance to purchase one.
