When I'm on Facebook and copy/paste a garden.org database link to a friends page in regards to the identity of a plant, a large letter P (Pinterest logo) appears rather than the particular plant database entry. I'm wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong or is this something new and the person will have to get to the database information through Pinterest?

Lin, that doesn't sound right - I don't suppose you have the Pinterest browser add-on installed?

LOL, I don't have a clue what an add on installer is. I used to be able to copy/paste a database link to my FB page without any problem but the past week or two, when I past the link, the large red Pinterest logo shows up and someone has to then click on that logo to see the database listing for the plant I've linked to.

No worries, Lin.

If you have the Pinterest addon, you should have the Pinterest logo (the stylised "P") on the browser bar at the top of the screen, like this: https://about.pinterest.com/en...

If you have that, it might be doing something strange with the links.

I don't see the Pinterest logo anywhere on my screen. I joined Pinterest a few years ago but I haven't visited the site in a long while and I always had to type in www.pinterest.com to get to the log on page. At the bottom of the garden.org page I see links for Pinterest, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram but I've never used them.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Lin. May I ask which browser are you using and what steps you take to cause this to occur (i.e. do you right-click and select "Copy", or do you press "CTRL+C", etc.)?

Joshua, My laptop is a MacBook Pro and my main browser is Firefox but I sometimes use Chrome too. I highlight the page url and select copy and paste. I hope that makes sense; it's the way I've always copied and pasted url links. My laptop has a touch pad so I can't right-click, like one can with a mouse. There are no keys on my keyboard labeled CTRL but there are two labeled "Command", with little cloverleaf icons. The only time I've ever used that key is when I want to quickly go to the top or bottom of a page; I select command and the up or down arrow.

Thanks Lin. On a PC keyboard there is a Control/CTRL key and the keyboard shortcut to copy is to press CTRL and C at the same time. I have limited experience on the Mac OS, so I couldn't tell you if the Command button would do the same.

Is the Pinterest logo appearing in both Chrome and Firefox when you copy-paste a link?

It had been showing up whether I used Chrome or Firefox but I just tested it now and it seems fine. I logged onto my FB page using both Chrome and FF, pasted links to two of my own database photos and no Pinterest logo appeared! Thumbs up Hopefully it remains normal and will show the garden.org database page instead of pinterest from now on. Nothing against Pinterest, I just thought it might be confusing to someone wanting an identity to a plant and they got a huge red letter P. Smiling

I also posted the other day a garden.org link into a facebook post and it appeared with a large Pinterest-type P also. I thought that was odd!
Here is a cutout of my post, showing the P! This was a post to the American Orchid Society page. I assumed next time I need to use the official fb link?

Come to think of it, it didn't happen this morning. I posted the link to the Orchid bloom thread for May to my fb page and it posted normal, without the P.

Thanks for the screenshot, Ursula.

That is most interesting - the garden.org link looks fine, so I actually suspect it's a Facebook-related thing where it thought the appropriate icon to use was the Pinterest one. That might be why it's intermittent.

The blue triangular prompt at the top of the page has Pinterest, FB, Twitter, Instagram and email, could it be related to that?

Maybe, if the Facebook code was picking up the wrong icon when it checks the link.

That icon is a sharing icon. Dave's been working on it and I see he's now added more services (initially it was just Facebook).

I was trying the share icon when Dave first added it and FB was the only one listed. It was probably being worked on at that time so the issue could very well have been due to FB picking up the incorrect icon.

But I didn't do that. I simply posted my link as a reply.

I was on Facebook (using Firefox) when someone asked for the identify a plant they had acquired. I opened another browser (Chrome) to get to the garden.org database and copied and pasted the database link as a reply to the query but as soon as I hit send, it posted the large red Pinterest symbol.

I was about to post a garden.org link to my fb page again, I used the above link and chose facebook. Well, the Pinterest P showed up again along with my link. I closed it up and will forget posting a link this way.
Thought you might like to know. I am using an IPad Pro.
