Grow a Pineapple Plant

Grow a pineapple plant. Twist the top off a fresh pineapple and remove the lower leaves. Let the bottom part of the pineapple dry out for several weeks. then plant. Be warned that the leaves do have sharp thorns on the ends.

I have a pineapple crown rooted in water on my windowsill. It's been there almost a year, still has roots, leaves still green. It's not dying. But I don't know if it's growing either. There might be some new leaves growing in the center of the crown, or maybe they've always been there.
Think it's too late to transplant to soil? Can it adapt?
