Thread OP

I planted this clematis last month with a tag that said 'crimson star' but it doesn't really look like what was on the picture. Was it mistagged, or will it evolve to a single flower bloom over time? Thank you!

I am not familiar with clematis Crimson Star (if it can have double flowers on the old wood). But there is another "Star" - clematis Red Star with double flowers: https://www.sagagardencentre.c... .

Definitely not Clematis (Clematis viticella 'Crimson Star')

Clematis 'Red Star' could be a possibility, a photo fully opened showing the center anthers would help.

Thread OP

I decided to visit the garden centre I got it from to ask about it. They had 2 more 'crimson star' clematis for sale that were blooming the exact way that mine is, with double flowers and not looking like the photo on the tag. He (the worker) just said sometimes they have different ways of presenting themselves, although he seemed surprised that what was blooming was what was in the photo too. I do think it is flowering very lovely, just not what I was expecting. And I'm still not convinced it's properly tagged. I'll be keeping an eye on it since this variety seems to lack info online.

A lot of times they get wrong tags from the grower. The other two were obviously also tagged wrong.
It is a very pretty bloom!
