I would be disappointed with this bloom of Eighth Wonder, but after I few years, I realize the first blooms will get better Smiling

This should be a fun one to watch develop. I kind of already like the rainbow effect on the sepals where the throat meets the rest of the sepal.

It is really difficult for me to reconcile the 1st picture as being the same as the second. Yes, I've been growing for years and have seen some drastic changes as plants mature. Please keep us posted!

@floota

I'm with you. It looks nothing like the hybridizer's photo, but we will see. It looks like a seedling that I would have thrown out. I was hoping someone else grew it in their garden. The hybridizer's photo can be deceiving sometimes.

I have seen drastically different flower colours from plants that had been grown in a greenhouse in the North during winter. Apparently it is a known problem for some plants, as flower buds that start their development in the low light levels of winter can be "abnormally" coloured.
In my case the first half dozen flowers from a newly purchased daylily did not look anything like the registered photo and I was beginning to suspect that it was an incorrect plant. The scape had appeared long after the plant left the greenhouse and the flowers opened over several days. Then a slightly different flower opened and then finally, the plant settled in to produce its normally expected flowers.

If the plant is not newly purchased or it was not grown in a greenhouse then I suspect that it is not the named cultivar.

@admmad, I purchased the plant earlier this year from a South Georgia grower. I'm sure it wasn't grown in a greenhouse. This is the third bloom and they all look just like that. The first had trouble opening in the coolness of the morning, but the look was the same.

I send the seller a very nice email along with the picture. She sends extra large fans and nice bonus plants. I ordered from her last year and all of the plants are blooming and are correctly named. Hopefully she send the wrong plant because I don't care for this one.

Oh yeah. Third bloom and looking like that would make me suspect that I got the wrong plant.

I think it was Granny Coot that I bought several years ago, and when it bloomed it doubled on the first few blooms. I sure wasn't expecting that, but it later straightened out.

Pat Strong,

In 2017, I purchased one of Pat Stamile's new introductions ( and had bought from them for years, know them, etc.) and when it bloomed, it looked nothing like his picture. So after a few more blooms still looked nothing like the registration, I politely emailed Pat and asked him to look at my picture and see if it could possibly be the new registration I'd ordered. He responded within a few hours and told me it was a sib seedling that he had been growing next to the introduction. As he was sold out, he immediately sent me a full refund. Glad because it had been $150. He also apologized profusely, which was appreciated immensely but all of us know that such mistakes sometimes happen. As I'd ordered from them for years, I knew that usually his plants looked at least close enough to the pictures to confirm that it was the correct plant. I offered to return the seedling to him but he told me I was welcome to keep it, as he had decided not to register it. Below is the seedling, which was a tet RFK seedling and IMHO, not bad. It does well here.

Moral of the story: Don't hesitate to send the hybridizer a picture if it appears it can't possibly be the plant you bought. Hopefully they will step up and either send you the correct plant or a refund like Pat S. did!

After receiving my email with the picture attached, the seller agreed that it was not Eighth Wonder. She also promptly refunded my money. She also said "Anything Petit-Goff shows may appear different. Goff does a lot of cloning which can alter the looks of a flower or it's offspring." She plans to pull the plant from her catalog and sell it as a $10.00 clump. They no longer buy anything from Petit after learning of the cloning. Attached is a picture of Eighth Wonder as it blooms in her garden. Hers is bit closer to the Petit pic.

The seller apologized, promptly refunded my money, and allowed me to keep the plant. She is one of the best!

@floota, great advice Hurray!

@pat236. !

Most sellers are reputable. We seem to hear more about the shady creepy ones, but it makes all our hearts glad when goodness, ethics and honesty prevail, doesn't it? Yay for you, and yay for your seller!!
So glad this worked out for you.
