Hi all,

I have this very tall gorgeous iris that I bought as Sugar Blues. I don't think it is. I though I figured it out for Money in Your Pocket, but that's probably not it either.

The biggest clue should be the purple base on the foliage, but I checked all 32 pages in the database with that characteristics and didn't find it (or missed it). It is pretty much my tallest iris, has a slight fragrance and blooms in mid-late season. Anyone has any ideas? Would be happy for any suggestions.

My first immediate guess was "No Count Blues". I'll remember to check if mine has PBF, or not.

Oh, the pictures look very similar, the height and the bloom season checks out too. No mention of a purple base, but this suggestion is quite promising, thank you!

I can confirm that my No Count Blues does in fact have PBF. So that helps narrow it down and now you know what iris to grow next to your NoID for proper ID.

I forgot to say welcome Gyongyi! Welcome!

Another possibility - Honky Tonk Blues. This also has PBF.

Yes, I would agree that there is no way that that is Sugar Blues. I immediately thought of either Honky Tonk Blues or Money in Your Pocket, but I am not familiar with No Count Blues. Whatever it is, it's gorgeous!

For consistency, I chose the same photographer (Brad) of each iris mentioned.

No Count blues has the short white dart at the end of the beard much like the NOID. The other two lack that trait.
Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason.

I vote for No Count Blues for the same reason. Don't worry about the missing PBF. That was a relatively new item to add.

OMG!!! I am so glad I checked out this page! THANK YOU UndertheSun!!! I also grow what I was 99% sure was No Count Blues except that mine have PBF and I could find no other mention of it having the purple anywhere else! I am separating to donate to my local iris society sale, and now I can label them with complete confidence! Thank You!

I don't think it's safe to sell or share it as No Count Blues, we all know that it's nearly impossible to determine cultivars from pictures, especially ones this color as there are too many. Too many other variables that you can't account for in a picture, like height, bloom time, fragrance, camera differences etc. To be certain you must plant a known No Count Blues next to your plant and see if what you get the next spring. If they bloom at the same time, have the same color, height, and when you tare apart a bloom from each and they are identical piece by piece, and the fragrance is the same, then you can safely say it's No Count Blues. Don't mean to burst your bubble, but way too often irises get miss Identified when we get impatient about finding an ID. Smiling
