A less toxic method could be to use a propane flame weeder such as the Red Dragon. Go after the weeds after a rain or after watering thoroughly to "steam" the roots. if large areas are affected you can lay down overlapping layers of wet cardboard and cover with fine pinebark or soil. Reseed after the weeds are smothered out.
