Thread OP

Hello, I'm new to the forum and looking for some advice. I recently planted several Oregon boxwoods early this spring (Paxistima myrsinites), and they all have lots of yellow leaves now. They all have lots of sun exposure, and they were planted in well-drained soils, and I gave them a handful of waterings to help them get established, but now they all have yellow leaves, and I'm assuming they will be dead within the next few weeks.

I have managed to plant some in the past in my yard and those are doing great (almost 3 feet high now), so I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong. I brought them at the local WNPS native plant sale.

Any ideas? Seems like they really don't like to be watered too much, so after their initial planting, I've held off on watering them.

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with Oregon Boxwood, but my experience has been that everything likes more water until they are really extablished, including drought tolerant plants. I don't know where in the world you are, but if it's hot there now, they might just be thirsty.

Thanks for the advice. I'm in Edmonds, WA, about 2 miles from the Puget Sound, 15 miles north of Seattle. Everything I've read about them has mentioned that they really don't like water at their roots, so I'm trying to be mindful of over-watering.

Welcome! Tinyplant... there could be a number of reasons for the yellowing leaves. See link ..

Did you water well at the time of planting? I water the hole, to check for drainage. If it doesn't drain, I either fix the drainage or I plant something different. After it drains, I water it again. And then again. I stick the pot into a bucket of water and let it soak. Then I plant the plant and walk away and never water it again.

I just noticed the date of this post. How are they doing?
