I was wondering if anyone knows the possible ID of this amaryllis? It took 4-5 years to bloom.

Cameron: It is always difficult to tell a "true" color from a photo. Is that more of a dark raspberry or a cherry red?

I looked through my photos and the photos on emaryllis.com. I don't see anything which is a good match for your photo. Do you remember where you got it? If you can email a photo to the source, they may be able to ID it based on what they were selling at the time. To complicate things, some companies sell bulbs as "exclusive to the grower." The grower gives them a name, but they are unregistered at that time. That makes it very difficult to later ID them. If the bloom is about 4 inch across the face, it could be Donau, registered in 1994. If it is larger, it could be Lagoon, registered in 2013. I am hesitant to make a guess in this case.

Thanks Barbara. I think I got it from a member on here but she thought it was Minerva that she sent me. I can't remember which member it was? I'll go out and measure the bloom but I think it's over 4 inches across. Thumbs up

I agree Christie. Thumbs up I had a Minerva bloom nicely last month and the flowers were the largest I have ever seen on it.

I like that hint of a white picotee edging to the petal - it might be worth crossing that back to itself to see if you can enhance that edging.

I never noticed the picotee edge until you mentioned it. I should have pollinated the flowers while they were open. Sad

I'll definitely do that. I did pollinate one a couple of years ago and have a few seedlings. Thumbs up

I also noticed the white edging, but wasn't sure if it was or wasn't a trick of the light hitting it.

I'm definitely curious about what types of blooms the offspring will have when I pollinate it.
