What is the old saying?
"There is a sucker born every day!" And you my friend just got snookered!
That Phalaenopsis will NOT stay blue. It will return to normal color the next time it blooms. They use food coloring to dye them. I have seen blue, gaudy gold, a sickening purple and for Saint Patrick's Day a hideous green. D'Oh! Drooling *Blush*

Groan is right! I rarely shop at my nearest Albertsons because the first thing you see when you walk in the door is a display of dyed Phals. It always make me want to just do an about face ang go elsewhere. Thumbs down

Sorry Glenn, I'm not a fan of Phals on the best of days, but that photoshopped image is just downright hideous!

Oh c'mon guys cut him some slack! Its kind of like the dyed baby chicks and bunnies Easter thing when I was a kid. The dye eventually wore off (if the animal stayed alive that long). Publix, Trader Joes, almost everywhere I go has the blue ones. Just like Lowes and the painted cacti. Its a novelty item, hopefully a fad that will fade. To be honest, I am glad they are doing it with flowers and not live animals. The plants are more likely to have a long term survival even if they revert.

Oh we are! If we didn't like BBQN, we wouldn't be kidding him so much!

But let me tell you this, while in Naples, I had an older couple try to enter a dyed purple Phalaenopsis on our monthly plant table. They could not because it was outside of our rules which talk about unnatural or dyed flowers. They were disappointed naturally that they might not get a ribbon. But they never really grasped what we were telling them. You could see it in their faces, their reactions.
Low and behold, the plant comes back, naturally with white flowers and it still didn't win a ribbon since there was a good deal of competition that particular night. Their question became how can we dye this, with what?
(To bring the incredibly silly purple color back.)

My first job was at a flower kiosk in a mall. We had floral spray paint in every color and I got to make 'colorful' bouquets with white and yellow chrysanthemums. The flowers took the spray very well and still lasted 10-14 days. Customers would ask for specific colors, my least favorite was red and black together. Thumbs down

Wouldn't it be an interesting experiment/attempt to take that now white Phal and inject the color of your choice back into the roots? Smiling
