How many people here have purchased e-memberships with the American Iris Society, only to find out that you cannot actually open or read the current and past couple years of issues on your Android tablets?

Apparently the current webmaster is compiling them with Adobe Flash, which is no longer supported by The Android operating system, basically because Adobe Flash has been known for years to have bad security Issues. In fact it is so bad that Adobe itself has announced they will be discontinuing Adobe Flash in 2020.

Meanwhile the AIS webmaster appears to be sitting on his hands as far as doing anything about this. I even sent him a suggestion of an alternative application that might fill the requirements he had stated , of allowing members to only view the PDF documents online, without downloading them. Then I heard nothing back from him.

I don't know whether the webmaster for AIS is in an unpaid volunteer position, or whether he's being paid for what he apparently is not doing, but something needs to change there, and pronto.

It's not right to take payment for e-membership and then not come through with it for everyone who has online access.

Hi Daisy,

Sorry to hear your frustration with the AIS website and your Android tablet. In April, I too, tried contacting the AIS website administrator (on a different topic... the commercial directory). After 6 weeks without a response, I emailed AIS President Jody Nolin. Ms. Nolin responded right away and informed me that AIS is in the process of re-building the website, though she did not indicate a launch date.

I would suggest contacting Ms. Nolin to see if AIS is aware that Flash will no longer be supported by Adobe, so there are no issues with the new website. It would be great if your problem was corrected now, though my experience is that AIS is not making significant corrections to the current website.

Yes, it seems like the AIS webmaster is slow about everything lately. For example the Tall bearded Popularity poll ballots have to be in by Sept. 1, but last spring it was sometime between March and June, and the results hadn't yet been posted online. I contacted several people in the organization hierarchy, and got no action on it until I went clear to the top. It was between March and June when the results were finally posted. That's a totally ridiculous time to have to wait for those results! My frustration over waiting this long for results was finally what prompted me to pay for an e-mail membership. And now I can't even access THAT. It has me spitting mad at this point. Something has to change in the organization because things just aren't getting done unless people start complaining.
