Ordered this Iris for a garden friend (who has helped me out a lot Smiling ) Message today from the vendor says it has fared too poorly to ship. Eh, stuff happens and it is no biggie in the overall scheme of the world, but my friend really wants this Iris. I would be happy to pay for a rhizome if anyone has an increase to share. If you do have one available, would you treemail me? Thanks. Thumbs up

I wish I did have one to send you, Debra. I've had to order another as backup to the first, which should probably be moved from the spot it's in. It's struggling to increase.

My old one, which surprised me by coming back from the dead isn't quite far enough along. I have another on order but the vendor wasn't sure if they had enough. I am intrigued that it is struggling for so many since mine has bloomed every single year of the last 6.

Leslie, the vendor said it normally goes gangbusters, but is struggling this year for some reason. It has been a weird growing year all around--I had a bloom stalk on Flo that just finished! In Texas! In July!!!!! Hurray!

Considering your weather, Flo is a pretty darn hardy iris in your garden!

That's a shame, to read about that one, as it's one I've placed an order for it , just to get one & makes me wonder, now, if I'll even get the real one if it's actually in short supply ...

Well Paul, I thank you , but it isn't my point exactly, that it isn't available from elsewhere. I'd already ordered it & if it turns out, to be in short supply & by the time I do get my order in August, for it from elsewhere, I just may not find out out, until after it's just a bit too late & already ordered & received , from Mid America... With mainly , my only other possibility end up being, to have it included, with a Schreiner's order due in August, that is if it isn't sold out there, by then...

I can only "afford" to continually pay, but for so much "shipping expenses" as it is, already...since it keeps on almost constantly "adding up", to be even more ! Besides which, I tend to buy & grow, more than only Iris & some of which, tends to be multiple orders, for a rather great variety of plants & seeds, from multiple vendors. That, tends to really "add up"...

Shawn - the one you get will be the real one. They don't send knock-offs if it is not available. They either refund your money or substitute (if you marked that substitutes are okay). If it is sold out everywhere this year, don't worry, some place will carry it next year.

Paul, Keith may have it but he is only selling his most recent iris on his site. Mid-America does have it, unless it is sold out. Since it just won the Dykes it was an extremely popular iris this year.

Debra, I hope you've got one coming, after all that help you'd been given !
Then, it got my mind started to thinking about asking a question & I will be posting it, in another thread...

Montmartre's a beauty, and I'm finding that if one I really want to have isn't doing well, sometimes it's where I planted it. So I either take an increase and plant it in a new bed or just order another.

Congratulations to Keith Keppel on yet another Dykes winner !

I can understand Shawn's concern about possible unwanted substitutions. I always specify "No Substitutions." Nevertheless, two different iris nurseries have sent me substitutions, mislabeling them as what I had ordered because they apparently didn't want to issue refunds for what they didn't have. I won't say which nurseries they were, but never again will I place orders with those two nurseries. The flower bed was one I had never before planted with iris, and I put labeled markers in with them when I planted them, so there was no mistaking what they had done when they bloomed the following spring.

However, with these experiences behind me, I now order early in the year, and, if the nursery asks for a preferred shipping time, specify the earliest possible shipping date, figuring they are less likely to be out of what I want.

I have to say that I have never had trouble with Schreiner's making unwanted substitutions.
