As our new home is being remodeled, I left some orchids on a bench on the front porch. They were out of the way and in good light, it seemed like a safe space. It turned out that one day the flooring guys used the bench to sit their crock pot on. They were warming some type of glue product and their pot was too close to poor little Sogo Grape. Sad The pot, the media, everything was hot when I discoved it. I think this one is compost.

The flooring guys are not responsible! They had no idea that what they did was wrong.
It is really on Alice to get things far enough away from them.

I realize that you think that they are responsible because it was their glue pot that caused the damage. And you think it is as simple as 1, 2, 3. But in court you would lose. Maybe they will replace it but don't be surprised if they decline.
Alice knew that an orchid + heat don't mix. They have no idea of what an orchid is let alone heat would hurt it.

Oh, I had no thoughts of fussing at the guys. They did a fantastic job on the floors. Obviously, had I known about their crock pot I would have moved the orchids. I am happy only one got cooked, it could have been worse.

Chalk it off to lessens learned Alice. Thumbs up

I'll tell you that it happens to everybody. A few years ago in Florida I was bowling in my league and going to the orchid club meeting after that. I had a Vanda in the car. The windows were cracked a few inches each and I was in the shade. When I was done and arrived at the meeting I checked on the Vanda. It was 50-60% yellow green and kind of transparent. I couldn't donate it to the raffle. But by next morning, it was 90% mush!! I tossed it in the compost.
Me, with all of my experience, yet I cooked a plant. I felt so stupid. If I could have kicked my own butt, I would have.
