I planted a window box last year, and already the conditions have changed. Last year, the window was full sun in the morning, shade in the afternoon. Now, other nearby plants have "leaped" to fill the space and the light conditions are complicated. Full morning sun from fall to around June. There after, about an hour of sun, then shade the rest of the day. The perennials from last year are surviving, but not blooming. I'm going to have to move them. The question is, what do I put back?

It's a difficult location to access, so I'd prefer low maintenance, as in annually, not weekly. I'm hoping for a few hanging plants, and something upright in the 20-24" range. I'm open to all colors.

Suggestions?

There's some beautiful trailing tiarella available. Smaller ferns and astilbe for the uprights? Not sure how they would do over the winter in a window box, but should do well in the shade.

Some trailing Heucherella like Redstone Falls should also look nice.
