Let 'em Grow: Ditchlilies

By Sharon

This is one in a series of very short articles that might change your mind about some surprisingly good weeds. And even if your mind isn't changed, you'll still be well informed.

As for ditchlilies - they are most commonly called "tiger lilies" here, which slightly irritates me 'cause that's not a correct name....
But they certainly are not respected. Thanks for putting some facts into my head for when I try to gently inform people.
Thumbs up

Glad you like the series, Critter.
I've heard them called tiger lilies here too, but that just makes me wonder what they call those tall orange blooms clustered at the top of one stalk that's covered in leaves; those that are of the lily family whose heads hang down and petals curve upward.

And the heat's so bad right now they are about the only things left blooming around here.
Stay cool, Critter! Thanks.

My mom, of southern Ohio coal mining country heritage called a flower in our back yard a "tiger lily" and said it was a weed she couldn't get rid of. Not sure it was a daylily, but I know that she despised DLs, and that's why it took me until my late 40s to discover their awesome-ness. They were just never on my radar screen earlier due to her disgust.
