Hello. Thanks for reading this.
My bearded irises are starting to look very shaggy. Is it too early to start cutting them back? I live in Zone 5 (northern Illinois).
Thanks again. Stay healthy.

Hi cchrabot! Welcome to the iris forum! Welcome!

I'm about an hour west of you. The tips of my irises are starting to turn brown from the dry weather we've been having. There are still plenty of green leaves left though, so the plant is still growing and putting energy in the rhizome. I've really noticed my rhizomes have increased in size in the last month, so I suggest not cutting back your irises leaves until the fall. Good luck!
