Here ya go, Linda..
"Mono" tends to mean "one" or "single"
"Dioecious" is from Greek meaning "two houses".
Monoecious (one house)
Dioecious (two houses)
SO! If a plant is "one house" (monoecious) it has all it needs to fulfill its legacy, both a male and female living in the same house to continue ever onward.
If a plant is "two houses" (Dioecious), it requires a helper in the form of a partner to continue ever onward, e.g., one house is female only, the other male only, and they need to be introduced (or go on a blind date with an insect or the wind)!
Have I confused you even more?
