Finally seeing some fruit on the luffa vine. Only two from what I can see, but they both popped out of the blue, so perhaps we will see more.... I'm excited!

Hi Linda!

Did you process them for sponges or eat them? I understand they are a popular squash to eat in Asia. I was hoping to process these as part of a spa gift package for Christmas gifts. Although, I'm not getting as many as I had anticipated, just yet. I'm certainly saving the seeds for next time. My plan is to add two/three more cattle panels and create a tunnel with vining peas in the Spring and luffa/gourds in the summer. Fact is, I need more arbor as it is. They are really spreading out and there's nothing more to weave it through. It's getting mighty heavy!

I keep watching my sunflower head for harvesting. It's a first with them as well. They sure seem ready, but the backs of the heads are still pale, so I guess I need to wait a bit longer. But, what do I know. The birds are not stealing the seeds yet, so I guess that's a good sign.

Boy, I sure am ready for the summer to end. We had a very dry season this year and there seems no end in sight. Come on, Autumn, hurry up!

It has been exceptionally dry here as well and very hot, Gina. I am so over it as well. I live at the end of the hose. Sad

No, I did not eat the luffa and I did not process them into sponges, sadly. I had a neighbor from Sudan who used to come over and look at them, I think they reminded him of home. Guess they had grown them there as well. If you turn them into sponges let me know how that ends up. I am no longer growing them, do not know why or what happened to them. D'Oh!

I miss growing sunflowers, such a happy plant.
