Thread OP

Hello everyone!

I have vaulted ceilings (around 18-20ft tall) and a large window. I was thinking of setting in solar light and growing a large plant or small tree inside. Does anyone have any good ideas of what to put in? I was thinking about bamboo or a dwarf citrus.

Any pitfalls or experiences would be much appreciated as well!

Thank you for your help!

Light intensity is a key factor. Large plants need light from overheard but also from the sides. Indoor light is generally far less intense than we recognize with our eyes.

Citrus and Bamboo are both light-lovers and tend not to fare well indoors unless they are in greenhouse conditions. There are many other plants that do well indoors in lower light. But ultimately it is the available light that will dictate your options.

If you post a photo that shows the entire space and also describe what you mean by solar light, I might be better able to help you.

Try to find Dracaenas, like Dracaena fragrans. I remember my aunt has vaulted ceilings and she got such impressive Dracaena growing tall inside. She does have good sized windows on two sides so it allows good filtered light inside. She does not even use grow lights.

I remember a friend too has similar plant and they have skylights, so it allows the plant to get light overhead, good for its upright growing.
