We have a south facing window over the garage that is exposed to a large swath of asphalt. I have done several things to combat this outrageous heat source. I am growing plants on the asphalt. I put several window boxes on the south wall to cool the wall and block the window. I have the heat reducing curtains. And I use the heat reflecting window films. Off all the things I've done so far, the window films work the best. The problem is, it bounces off so much UV rays, it burns the plants in the window planter. I had to down grade to a lesser window film in order to get anything to grow in my boxes.

Currently, I'm growing a variety of grasses in that box. I wondering if there is anything else I might try that would be able to handle the bounce back of the uv rays off a window film.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

I had double pane windows installed on my house that have argon gas in them. The heat from the sun can't come through with these window. You can place a temperature gauge inside the house and the sun hits it and no temperature rise. The west windows temp are HOT here in TX. around 114 in the sun and 106 in the shade.
