Today is August 30th. This follows The Hurricane 2019 thread. Everyone seems to be busy making preps for the upcoming hurricane in the Atlantic. No one is certain yet of it's path. But Hurricane Dorian is expected to make landfall Sept. 1 or 2 somewhere along FL's East Coast. I know we are worried about each other. Please let us know how you are doing during or after the storm and CHECK IN HERE , tell us you're safe when you can. In no particular order....(feel free to add someone if I was amiss or if you are reading this and wanted to be added.)

I don't think that I'll see anything at all dangerous here in Vero Beach. We are still getting those bands but the winds are not threatening and the rains are brief and not even in the amounts I see in thunderstorms.

That's good news @drdawg Ken. I'm learning the location of more cities on FL than I knew before! Im not letting my breath out until Dorian is safely out to sea.

This storm is slowly falling apart, with winds now down to 120 mph. Dorian has not moved in about 18 hr. That's just amazing. The Bahamas continue to get savaged. I walked outside a few minutes ago and though there was a steady breeze, it wasn't significant.

I am so glad it appears to be winding down and all our Florida friends will be saved this time.

I suspect Cheryl understands this all too well. Harvey (the drunkard hurricane) pounded her area and didn't want to move on. It made life grim.

Ken, the latest news report I saw about an hour ago for our area said that we will have tropical force winds and rains overnight tonight and I think it showed Vero Beach and Sebastian with potential wind gusts to 50-65mph. Whew! We really are lucky with this one ... way too close for comfort in my opinion!

🙏 Prayers for the Bahamians and their very long road to recovery. One of my kind neighbors has already started a collection of pet food and supplies for relief aid that will be heading over in the next week or two.

I'm sure I will have more limbs of my Australian Pines come down. One huge limb is lying across my driveway. I tried to move it to the side but couldn't budge it. Chainsaw time tomorrow I guess.

Really surprised by that Ken. Australian pines usually hold up really well to winds.

I have no experience with these trees, Ann. About all I know is that they were planted 80 yr. ago as windbreaks for a citrus farm and that they are not pines at all.

The (not a pine) Australian Pine (Casuarina equisetifolia) is a species that was introduced to south Florida years ago and began to spread, even up into some areas of the central part of the state. It's classified as a Category I non-native invasive in Florida; a major pest like the Brazilian Pepper tree; both illegal to plant or propagate in the state. I recall years ago seeing massive stands of Australian Pines all along I-95 in the southern part of the state.

I still see stands of them everywhere I drive. All of them seem to have been planted as windbreaks for citrus. Some of that is still citrus but a lot has gone to other uses; housing developments, pasture, turf and vegetable farms.

We fared well here in Vero Beach. We never lost power. Some yard cleanup, getting all the plants back to there usual spots, undoing all the lashing and netting, and removing the aluminum storm shutters is ahead of me, but I'll just take it a chore at a time.

We had power off for a short while and flickers/surges a couple of times last night but otherwise, those of us in this part of Florida are truly blessed!

While cutting up a long, heavy limb that came down across the driveway, my chainsaw quit. I can't even pull the cord on it now. Something has locked it up. Just what I need, another problem and a repair bill. Sighing!

Well the worst has passed here. Just a few dead branches fell out of the trees, but bromeliads under the pavilions so they good. Thumbs up No loss of power, Internet or Cable. We were lucky this time.
