Name: Marilyn Greenwood Village, CO (Zone 5b) Garden today. Clean next week.
I have some heuchera that is overrun by ajuga in a small area I have outside my townhouse, but do love all the lovely colors and decided to try to make a planter featuring these beauties.
Do they do OK in planters??
( I have a large bowl shaped hyperfufa that I want to put them in.) I saw so many great pictures in the container forums that feature them but wanted to come to your forum as I figured you are the experts....
Heucheras like a well-drained soil amended with organic matter. The newer varieties bred from Heuchera villosa, a heuchera native to the southeast, can take full sun if enough water is given. Heuchera breeder Dan Heims of Terra Nova Nurseries cautions against feeding heucheras, as too much nitrogen can kill a plant.
Heuchera prefer to be kept on the dry side as well. Check the soil before you water. If the soil is moist, I would wait on watering. They don't like wet feet at all.
