This is how I have been composting for years. Just out in the open, left to the elements. So easy and it makes fantastic compost for the garden where everything growing loves it too!

Yup, no muss, no fuss. Jest as nat'ul as dirt.

In my climate, which has really cold winters, I collect all my winter composting scraps in a big garbage container, and then once it's thawed out I bury the stinking mess deep in an existing compost pile. Within a week or two, the worms have found it and it's transformed into rich black nutritious mulch. I also make compost tea with it, for feeding tomato plants, and other crops that like a good fertilizing regime.

If you pile it, it will rot.

That might be why I resist sheet composting and lasagna gardening. I would not get to play with that lovely black stuff!

I can almost hear the soil microbes clamoring for it, like baby birds cawing for worms.
