I saw some dls on the LA for spring delivery. Help me understand. I bid/win now. Pay now. Keep ordering from the same sellers all winter to save on shipping?? Like daylily lawaway?? Hurray!
Is this how it works when ordering from web sites during the winter? Pick the dls, pay, and have delivery in Spring? And you can keep adding/paying as you go?
Hope this makes sense. I had a previous post about this, but lost it.
Hurray! Group hug Thank You!

Hi Missy. It's always best to check with the seller before assuming anything. Every seller can have their own way of doing it. When you look at a daylily on the LA, there is a link you can click to "contact the seller". So I would ask.

However, I have done exactly what you described in previous years. Order some, pay for them with the delivery amount. Then when I ordered more, I just had to add the +$2 per plant when I ordered more later. When the plant count got high, checked back in to make sure we didn't have to worry about how to handle if I ordered two boxes worth of plants.

If you're not ordering something rare/hard to find, you may want to wait on ordering from the websites. I've found that the websites that I like best usually update their inventory and price list in the first few months of the new year, and prices can come down enough to be a substantial savings.

One website, Park Lane, has a Reserve List, which is a great feature. You can reserve the daylilies you want to buy in Spring, without paying for them, and if you find them someplace else or decide that you don't want them, there's no penalty for changing your mind. I really wish more sellers would do that!

Got an email from Ms. Elaine S. @ Pedal Pushers. I can give her my wish list and if it's available, I can pay now and take delivery in Spring.
I love the idea of buying and paying now instead of laying out all of my $$ at one time in the Spring! It will free up more $$ for the members sales here! I never knew about this!! D'Oh!
Of course, I had planned to focus on Oriental/Asiatic lilies next spring. Then I saw the daylilies..... Rolling on the floor laughing

Missy,

There are great daylily sellers out there, but do your homework. Some are better than others. Also, your in a very warm zone compare to me ( 8 -4). Do a bit of homework before you buy. Those Florida beauties will probably do well for you but some of our Northern Ones may not. I love the southern ones, but they don't always do real well here in my zone 4. Ask a lot of questions

I agree with Mary, great plants! My order last year had two errors, got a substitute and got sent a mislabeled fan. Was not notified of substitution. Sighing!
Happy gardening!

Hurray! Thank you, Mary! At their prices, I am tempted to try a few.

I don't think I would mind a substitution, but I would love to have the option of picking my own. And I would definitely want to know about it. Shrug!
