Does anyone grow this iris? In the database, and in AIS wiki it is listed as having a registered height of 76"!!!

Has it ever grown that tall for anyone? Thinking Shrug!

It's probably an error in the registry. It was introduced by Suttons and they describe it as being around 30 inches tall. If I had to guess, Anton Mego probably registered it with a height of 76 cm (76 cm roughly equals 30 inches) and it was mistakenly entered in the registry as 76 inches. He is from Slovakia, if I remember correctly, and it would make sense for him to use centimeters rather than inches.

All that being said, I have a TB seedling that routinely reaches 5 to 6 feet, so 76 inches wouldn't be impossible.

It would be surprising to see an iris of that height registered, though. The taller they get, the more challenging it is to keep them upright. Shrug!

Kent ~ Thank you. 30" is a reasonable height for a registered iris.

So one of your seedlings is a giant! Wow! Are the flowers larger and the leaves longer and/or wider, or is it just tall? Do you stake them?

Elsa ~ Yes, that is my picture of it. First year bloom. Thank you for the acorn!

How I discovered this size description, was while working on the spreadsheet. I copy the registered height, then I (will) compare my height with the registered heights. I didn't actually measure them all this year, but I plan to next year. A lot of the irises bloomed short the first year, and some that bloomed last year, did not bloom this year. I hear that they are settled by the third year. But I'll probably mess that up by moving things around.

I now have enough rebloomers to fit in the first iris garden that I dug. You see where I am going with this....? I really don't know if I will get to that right away, as that was one of my "fall projects". And to clear out the daylilies in the messy mixed border...and...etc! Hilarious!

It is just tall. I have it listed as discarded although it's probably still out there since I didn't get the bed it's in completely cleaned out this fall. I kept it around for a few years because I liked the flower, especially the brown beard. I was hoping the height was just an anomaly and it would settle in to something more reasonable. Never did, it was always at least 48 inches tall and often close to 72 inches. Shrug!

Thanks, it's from one of the few successful crosses I've ever managed to get from 'Chocolates and Silk'. Seedlings from 'Chocolates and Silk' are almost always beautiful. Unfortunately, they seem to often have serious flaws as well. I think I have three seedlings left out of numerous attempts and only one of those seedlings has any real chance of ever being introduced.

72"... 72 inches is huge. I would buy this iris just because it is so huge.
TB 'Starting Fresh' blooming for me in May of 2022. It bloomed for a week and a half with nine buds.

Kent: Very Beautiful!!! My Irises don't usually grow more than 3 feet. I think it is because my growing season is short due to hot summers. Maybe one like that would grow 4 feet Smiling
