My rental duplex is part of a small community containing nine other duplexes and twenty fourplexes. On any side of a building facing a street there are some regulations governing landscaping. Garden borders cannot be more than four feet deep. Plants in the borders cannot get large enough to touch the eaves. Plants may not grow any closer to the building than six inches. You might think these rules are too restrictive... but working within their confines has been an interesting challenge. And, over time, I've learned that a rule can be bent once in a great while.
There are several other plants in these two borders... but they don't show up in the photo so they could not be "tagged."
I've applied for permission to plant three small trees in a grouping in the front lawn, but the application is just now under review.
The brick panel between the patio and the windows normally contains a green metal trellis that supports a 'Rooguchi' Clematis... but it has been removed for the winter months to prevent theft.
The patio, during the growing season, contains five potted Agapanthus africanus [Lily of the Nile] that bloom beautifully in June and July. And the patio normally contains two comfortable chairs and a small table... but they were on the other side of the house when this photo was taken.
