What type of soil/potting mix, fertilizer? Thanks anyone!!.

Daylily seed need cold stratification so the cold frame would work well because you want the seeds to be cold but not frozen. I don't think the soil type matters but, seeds do not need fertilizer. Light won't be important until after the seeds germinate but, too little ventilation will cause mold to grow on the soil surface. The seeds will need moisture to germinate but, but don't keep them too wet.

The seeds can be germinated in damp sand and then transferred to pots when you see roots. I would then use 1 gallon pots with several seeds in each. Or, just start with several seeds in 1 gallon pots.

Thanks Daisyl.for your reply. Thank You! My seeds were harvested , put in fridge for 4 wks. + , on damp paper in a ziplock baggie, then planted in cold frame,1/4" deep. Watered regular. The cold frame is south facing, and the potting mix is aprox. 10" deep. (Will try to post pictures of cold frame). Seedlings sprout rather quickly. Look ok now, I put a tarp over the cold frame if we are going to have several days of 10 degree or below weather , the tarp is removed as soon as it gets above that or brite sunny days. Of course I have to water a little on warmer days. But they seem to grow a little up to probably mid December at least here. The divided part of the cold frame is testing two different potting soils. Seedlings are usually 4" - 10" tall by may 1st when they are removed from cold frame and plant dept in prepared seedling bed. I have 380 seeds in cold frame. Thanks again for your reply.
