Hi Jan, sorry that no one has responded yet but it's a bit difficult to identify without photos of other parts of the plant, like leaves, bark, etc. Did you ever slice it to see what the inside looked like? I live in Florida and I'm not sure what it is but I wonder if it might be an overripe Kiwi of some sort?

The Jujubes (Ziziphus jujuba) fruit I've seen is only about an inch in length but perhaps there are varieties that are much larger?

I could not tell from the photos how large it was, it just looked like the same shape. The Fruit and Spice site has lots of pictures, perhaps it is in there somewhere.
