Wanted for Crimes Against Indoor Gardens

We all go through stages of transition in our lives. What was once the four-bedroom ranch-style home in the cul-de-sac is now the two bedroom with loft condominium when finances or personal situations need to be sorted. You don’t realize all the things you have in your life until they are no longer there. This takes on a much deeper meaning when you are a gardener.

I enjoyed your article. You're such an engaging writer. I like your style. I think many of us who have been around a few years know the joys and disappointments that come with good times and not so good times. One thing for sure, if we have a passion, we'll find a way to create a space to indulge that passion. Think of the Bonsai cultivation in small spaces in Japan. Small treasures. We tend to attempt that beauty in our small spaces when faced with a downsize. Good for you to keep trying!

Once a gardener---then always a gardener!
And yes---it is not the size of the garden, but rather what you do with it that matters.

What a great story!

You couldn't ask for such different growing conditions in the places you've lived.

You're an inspiraton to all of us!

Thank you all for the great comments. :)

@Susie, thank you so much. I could not agree more. I watched a documentary the other day on HBO about birders in New York and someone mentioned that we all have within us a deep desire to connect with nature. That desire culminates quite beautifully when we garden. Thank you so much again and so good to see you again too!

@Caroline, definitely! Smiling One day I shall write about a good friend of mine in England who took container gardening to a whole new level when all she had was a small patio for her garden space. She has always been an inspiration to me.

@Vic, Thank you! Smiling I love that my green (sometimes brown) thumbs and my gardener's intuition has been tested so many times. It is a continuous, wonderful journey that I will always enjoy.

Thank you all again and I wish you the very best.

I enjoyed your article very much Benny . . . and identified with it since I am currently living in an apartment. I miss gardening so much but thi sis for a season while I get my degree in Social Work. My inside gardening is simple but effective: Coleus, pothos, arrowhead, nepthitis, oxalyis and spider plants. I should try some bloomers this fall!

Thanks for writing and sharing your journey with us.

Hi there Linda!

Thank you very much! I appreciate it. I think I am getting the hang of it now but just how to keep simple English ivy alive is proving challenging. I love the challenge though. These three years have gone by very quickly but I have to say I do love the cooler weather. As always, it is so good to hear from you. I hope you are still planting and enjoying wall flowers.

Wishing you the very best!

Hiya Becky!

Thank you so kindly. You too know all about transitions and I think that is so awesome you are working on getting your degree. Do you have a patio? I love the plants you have opted for inside. Coleus! Of Course! Smiling Will these live all year round? I bought a beautiful purple leaved Oxalis not that long ago and it too is doing well. I even saw some flowers come and go. It is a pleasure to be writing for this site and there is more to come soon.

Thank you and blessings to you both!
Benny

Benny, my coleus did fantastic inside all winter. I cut it back at some point and rooted more and then in the Spring it really became gorgeous. Some is indoors still and some is on my east facing patio.

Yes, Benny I still am enjoying an occasional Wall flower ! Green Grin! Plus, the Kiss me over the Garden Gate that I started from seed when you first told the story about it, now comes back here and there in various pots every spring. Thumbs up It always surprises me, when I think it is gone it reappears ! Hurray!
