Sometimes as a garden developes you realize you have created a room, without even trying.
This is my shady spot to sit in the recesses of the dogwoods' cool shade.

I carved out a little cave and placed a wood barrel, then a few planters.

Never had luck growing coleus until I put it in full shade in my room under the dogwoods.

I even had plants (creeping thyme) hanging from the dogwood branches.

Kathy, I love the area you made under your dogwood. You have such nice gardens. I really like the path you made out of the bricks. You do a great job. Lovey dubby

Thank you, Jeanne !
Did you ever hear my brick pavers history?
I found (300) 8 pound pavers at a yard sale. The trucker removed the huge load from downtown Detroit during a repaving project. They date back to the 1800's. He didn't have the heart to dump these beauties at the landfill. The rest is history. (DH groans every time I tell the 'moving of the brick paver' story)

Kathy, that was a great find on the bricks. My son found about the same deal. Someone advertised old bricks and him and his wife went and got them but had to pay a little for them, I think. They redid their sidewalk up to their house with them this last fall. Here is a picture of them. He did a great job.

That turned out elegant. It really makes the front of their house beautiful.

We dream of a patio and approaches in all pavers with a variety of designs. I have a small amount but in my city crews are directed to save the old pavers for public works.

There are landfills all over with millions of them. They just need repatriation!

Anyway, that's on my long-term planning list while I work out the sourcing. Love what you did.
Always looking for interesting plants for pollinators and food! Bonus points for highly, and pleasantly scented plants.

Thanks, Urban.
Bricks don't all have to match. You can do segments of walkway, as budget & resources allow. I still make changes and additions. I kindof like the patchwork effect.
Best of luck - don't forget to post progress pictures.

love the paver story (katesflowers), nothing is as sweet as re purposing or getting a great deal, those pavers look great and a little age and wear doesn't hurt, it just gives more character. Great job!

Thank you, Tom.
My whiskey half barrel finally collapsed this spring. I couldn't bring myself to discard the wood, so I made a short walkway.
