Hello,
I run own a small craft potting mix company. Our primary focus has been on indoor plants. I want to create an excellent blend for epiphytes. We have a basic blend for all epiphytic plants, but just not happy with it. I have gone through this with our other blends, especially the succulent blend. I can not count the amount of time I tweaked it or started from the beginning trying to create something extraordinary. I want to create an extraordinary for epiphytes in general.
Our potting mixes always start with nature as our inspiration. Like what are found in nooks and crannies of trees; twigs, sticks, leaf matter, bark, insect excrement. If I were to add that to a pot, I would not have adequate aeration. What do you add to natural elements to make it work in a pot.
Extraordinary gives a first time plant own a better chance of success. Not just success but to understand the enjoyment of growing plants. How it impacts your life. This starts with the potting mix. I know everyone growing conditions are different, so extraordinary work for most people regardless of growing conditions.

If you are willing please share with me your recipes or just the ingredients you use make your life easier.

Generally orchid roots need air to survive. Except for terrestrial orchids which will grow in something like Pro-mix.
I have been growing for 45 years and have used different blends depending on what type of orchid I was potting.

I have used fir bark, Orchiata, charcoal, sponge rock, and aliflor to grow my plants. Some of my orchids grow in baskets, slotted plastic net pots and mounts of cork bark or tree fern.
A good deal of orchid growers use New Zealand long fibered sphagnum moss either alone or in a mix.
Just google orchid potting supplies. You will find a lot of information.

I had another thought. Do you grow orchids?
If you don't grow orchids and understand their wants and needs, how can you devise a blend for them to grow in? I mean no disrespect but it seems a little odd.

I use equal parts orchiata, large sponge rock, large charcoal and clay pellets. I grow Cattleya in clay pots outdoors in Florida.

In addition, one might mention Coconut. A coconut shell as a mount/pot and Coconut fiber/think baskets lined with coconut fiber or loosened fiber as is.

I think you are going to have a challenge creating a one-size-fits-all mix for Orchids. They vary too much (even within a genus), so you may need to consider a few different mix types.

I can taste the turkey. Oh boy, stuffing makes my brain explode!!

My favorite mix is:
Seedling grade charcoal
Seedling grade sponge rock
Small aliflor pellets
Seedling grade Orchiata
With larger plants I substitute medium grade for bark for the Orchiata.
I also use larger aliflor pellets in the mix for larger plants with heavier roots.

With my Phals, I have changed my media a long time ago, used to be the usual chunky orchid bark mix, then I found using hygrolon much better. Made them into baggies stuffed with styrofoam and clay rocks. They liked that much better, nothing that will decompose and always allows good airflow around the roots.

My Oncidiums being more water needy, they are still in orchid bark mix, finer texture not the chunky ones, and some which I was able to move to a coir container, really enjoyed growing the roots attached to the containers, since coir will hold the water longer but still a allows air.

My Dens always love a coarser media, smaller containers too.

My tiny Barbosella orchid loves just to be mounted in that fern bark.

Pretty much we all have our preferred media and method of planting the orchids, so having one size fits all is not quite feasible.

In my homeland, I have seen Vandas, not growing in any media at all, they are just attached/mounted to long bamboo poles like a fence hedge and enjoying the hot humid environment all day long.

If you are growing a wide range of epiphytic plants (not just orchids) I would recommend a variation of the AGB (Atlanta Botanical Garden) mix that they use in their vivariums there. If you Google ABG potting substrate you can read about the basic ingredients and the ratio of each. I use it for a lot of my epiphytes (philodendrons, anthuriums, orchids etc) and it is very nice
