I'm looking to get an oncidium from sborchid but they (kindly) suggested my husband was nuts because the shipping would far exceed the cost of the plant....(It's his Christmas present to me...he's willing to pay it, it just sounds like I could get more orchids for the same price with less shipping...)

Who do you like online (specifically) that might be more New England-based and have an easier time shipping?

I'm looking for something a little not totally ordinary, if you know what I mean...I'd like to have a selection to choose from.

Hope this is okay; sometimes I'm not sure about starting a new thread...

I personally do not order plants in the winter. I am afraid that they can sit somewhere in sub freezing temperatures.

My go to places are:
H & R nurseries
Waldor Orchids
Krull/Smith Orchids
Plantio in Sarasota Florida
Mac's Orchids in Florida
SVO Orchids
Bredren Orchids
Hamlyn Orchids

I agree with Bill, shippng a plant to MA this time of year is iffy.
Although they do not seem to carry Oncidiums, Logees is in MA and it would be a fun day trip to visit their greenhouses. They only have a few varieties and the plants they ship are pretty small but they do have larger, blooming plants on site. If you have never seen the place it is a true experience for any plant lover.
