In January I'll be cutting this back, trying to get rid of the whole thing. It's been quite vigorous for the past 5 years in its extra large container, but it just doesn't like our humid climate and botrytis spreads to all its beautiful bunches of grapes before it can ripen, every year without fail. I don't want to just throw it out, since I've had it so long, and I'm sure a more northerly gardener would have less trouble with this particular issue, or someone willing to spray it with something. Any takers of cuttings? Would be glad to share a bundle or two with several of you. From what I understand, it doesn't take much to root them in six weeks or so.

Would like named purple muscadine or named primocane blackberry or raspberry cuttings in return.

And if there are any takers for the whole plant, I'll pull it out of its container for you. A good-sized (two-year or older) named muscadine, primocane blackberry or raspberry would be nice in return... or even a dwarf fruit tree that can be espaliered. Or an OG reblooming rose.

Curious if you've ever cut your grape vine to the ground & it came back with no problems? When we moved here over 20 years ago, there was already an arbor started. For years it was neglected due to schedules, life, laziness. For the past couple years I've been trying to reclaim it as I can. Cutting trees as I can. I've cut the vines for the last 3 years with no problems but this summer I cut as much as I could, down to the old part at the ground. This is probably transplanted muscadine from the wild since it grows around here & not a named variety.

I've never tried that, no. Hm, you mean you cut even the trunk where the canes come out of?

Did they begin producing grapes yet? If so, how did they taste?

Grapes usually come around first week of August. I never made it out to get any before the squirrels or birds got to them. So I guess I'll see what happens next year. Previous years we just made juice or my husband made wine. I always wanted to make jelly but by the time he made his wine, there usually wasn't enough.
