A family member gave me an orchid and I have never cared for an orchid before. What kind of orchid is it and how do I care for it?

First of all. Welcome to the Orchid Forums!

We have several ongoing threads and posts about Phalaenopsis care. Your orchid is a Phalaenopsis.
We also have a great 'sticky' entitled "Growing Supermarket Orchids-Phalaenopsis". That is packed with a lot of good information on how to grow them. If you scroll back through the many pages in the orchid forums, there are several Phalaenopsis specific threads.
