I am clearing out some areas of my yard and came across this plant. I do not know what it is. So I don't know if it should be pulled up or left to grow. Help! Can anyone ID this plant?

I keep looking for an ID online, but so far the closest I've gotten in appearance is something like Wild Coffee (Psychotria nervosa). But my plant does NOT have shiny leaves. I have a lot of birds that come to my yard because I feed them, so it may be possible that a bird dropped a seed and this unknown plant grew from it? I suspect it is a native plant species.

Could it possibly be Dull Wild Coffee (Psychotria sulzneri) or Velvet leaf Coffee (Psychotria tenuifolia)(though the leaves do not feel like velvet on mine)?

I still need an ID. Help, please!

My first thought was Vernonia of some kind, but that's just a guess.

My first thought was it reminded me of the native Shrimp Plant (Justicia brandegeeana) but the stem and leaves also look a lot like Golden Shrimp Plant (Pachystachys lutea) I planted a little one in our yard here in 2017 but it must have died because when we moved back a year ago, it was no longer there.

Lin - I wished it was that Shrimp plant, but I am pretty positive that it is not.

Anyone else have any idea what my mystery plant is?

Skylark, thanks for bumping this thread with your question.

With the matte leaves, I think Becky was correct with the identification of "Dull Leaf Wild Coffee" (Psychotria tenuifolia) which also has common names of "Shortleaf Wild Coffee" and Velvet Leaf Wild Coffee". It is a Florida native and found from Volusia County, southward through the state. https://florida.plantatlas.usf...

Thanks! I recently came upon Psychotria nervosa in the park and I really liked it and was looking it up in forums: it has such beautiful shiny leaves and berries I just love it!
