I was at the Festival of Flowers and looked at the Nature's Herb Farm plants there. There was one called Portulaca Duet Rose. The flowers weren't open to see them, but I bought one anyway, thinking it was two colored. Well, I don't think it is, from what I can see! It would help if the rain would go away, so it would flower more! Anyway, what flowers I've seen so far are pretty. but not two colors, darn! This is what I found on googling:
http://www.sakataornamentals.c...
I want it!!! Maybe I'll contact the place if it doesn't produce any two-color blooms!

Nature is magic all you have to do
Are the leaves like that of the one in the link? If so I would say it is a Purslane not a Portulaca.

Beautiful Linda Hurray! I would call it purslane from the leaves as well.

Yes, it definitely is purslane. I'm going to try to contact the company I got it from. Maybe they do have some other plants that have two different colors. It's supposed to have orange and yellow, according to the label. But all I see is kind of a rose-orangy color.

Portulaca oleracea is the botanical name of purslane.

I've never seen the orange and yellow, Linda. Just the pink and yellow. I loved this plant a few summers back. Green Grin! Lovey dubby

Does anyone have cuttings for Portulaca 'Samba Pink'? Does anyone have one cutting? I can't find it anywhere except wholesale nurseries and I kinda don't need a hundred. Green Grin!

No, I don't Robin but if I run across any when the local nurseries start to carry them, I'll let you know. Thumbs up

Thanks Vicki. It was a NC wholesaler I tried to order from, it was a great price for 100 cuttings ($11.00). Then they added a $25.00 fee for a low order...then shipping was set at (if I remember correctly) $33.00 until I put in my zip code. My shipping changed, but it doubled. Hilarious!
All of a sudden, I couldn't afford them anymore!
God blessed me with dirt.

@ LindaTX8 and @Boopaints, your bicolors are gorgeous. Both you zones look like a perfect portulaca match. Do they grow year round in AZ and TX?

I'm sure I'm going to love me some this summer. I generally love to let them self seed and see what comes up the following year, I wouldn't take that chance with the new hybrids and have to take cuttings if they live up to their photos.
God blessed me with dirt.

No, Robin, they don't grow year round in Phoenix. I'm not aware there is anywhere they do unless maybe the equator. Whistling In fact, our nurseries don't sell them until May which is a shame.

Here on this forum you'll see a few who have grown them from seeds. Not me. I failed. Sad

Thanks Vicki, those faux pas happen when I post too late at night. I should be sleeping instead of thinking about plants.

Thanks for the info Becky, I thought for sure AZ and TX grow all my MI annuals as perennials.
God blessed me with dirt.

Purslane sometimes can survive outside here...especially if covered. And sometimes they come up from seed. Nothing overwintered this year...it got down to 15°! And the Herb Farm Nursery no longer has that kind! That makes me sad!

We have at least one to four freezes here each winter so I've3 never had purslane survive through the colder months.

BUT mine always reseeded in my last home. I

This was taken in early October after the seeds had their way all summer. Not as many blooms but I'll look for an earlier one.
