Thread OP

Would a container designed to organize and preserve seeds be of interest to fellow gardeners? Just trying to understand fellow gardeners needs and interests. Thanks!

Well the largest collection of seeds ( Svalbard Global Seed Vault) uses air tight glass jars (I do too with a packet of silica gel).
Thing is, when you're out planting seeds either in the garden or your greenhouse...you don't really want anything too big to carry with you because it's very inconvenient. Alot of gardeners just stick to paper envelopes in a bigger plastic container.

Love hearing new ideas. Welcome, Silver. What do you suggest?
I save seeds. I harvested two, 5 gallon buckets if zinnia seeds this year. Once dried and sorted, I stored them in a bunch of 1 gallon ziplock plastic bags, identified with black marker, and keep in my dark, cool, dry basement.
I have also saved other seeds and have used both glass jars & zip lock plastic bags.
The gardeners mentality is to save money. To save seeds is a great way to do that.
We'd love to hear your ideas.

I don't really save seeds but I do buy a lot as well as do a lot of trading. My vegetable seeds are usually bought in bulk at the local feed store. Those I will divide into plastic baggies for trades once we've taken out what we want to use for ourselves. Right now I've got them sorted into envelopes marked with the letters of the alphabet. I have separate envelopes for tomatoes, peppers, & beans because I have several varieties of those. Right now I'm storing the envelopes in this plastic tray I got from Dollar Tree. In the past I was using those shoe holders that hang on the wall or over a door. I like the clear pockets but have only seen them at a few dollar stores, & not for awhile.

Oh, Kathy, I like your idea of seed packets in the clear pockets of the door hanger shoe rack. That's a great idea.

I don't collect seeds to outlive humanity, lol, just to give me a gardening fiddle-fix in the dead of NY winter.
I use paper envelopes cut in half and stored in a 3x5 index card box (because that's what Meets humidity and storage needs that I found at the dollar store, lol.)
If you were creative enough to design something simple, cheap, small and attractive (say something that could stay on a kitchen windowsill) I'm sure you'd find a market, especially as a gift item for gardeners like me, but you'd have to keep it under say $10, because seeds are cheap, they do have a limited shelf life, and storage space is at a premium in all our lives. I don't know if it's possible or worth the effort if you're doing it for any reason but self gratification.
There's no way in the world I'd sacrifice the space to put 40 pairs of shoes on the back of a door, or even a hook for a robe I used every day to save seeds that would total a volume of maybe two tablespoons, and something smaller might be tough to get the seeds into pockets..
