Many of you have probably been getting your Superstition catalogs in the mail in the last week. Yep, it is out and full of lovely choices!

Since Roger handled a lot of the email for Superstition, I asked Rick what his preference is for our orders this year. He would very much prefer you to send your order list along with the payment by mail . In the past they would let you email, and then you would mail the check. They had several problems with people not sending in payments last year after they emailed their lists. This meant R&R held back iris they could have sold to others that were happy to pay. So please respect Rick's wishes and mail those orders!! And soon as he says several are selling out quickly.

PS - there is a very lovely tribute to Roger from Rick in the front of the catalog.

Timothy - it should be on the Facebook page. I confess that I don't know. $3? $5?

I didn't get a catalog this year, I wonder if there is new requirements in place. I didn't get my order in last year but did the year before. Shrug!

I think Superstition sends the catalog to those who bought from them the previous year.

Quote from their Facebook page:

Send $1.50 to Superstition Iris Gardens 2536 Old Highway, Cathey's Valley 95306 for our 2020 Iris Catalog.

Well $1.50 is really reasonable.

I wish Superstition would have a regular web page other than Facebook. I and many of the people I know have closed our Facebook accounts because of them "leaking" our personal account information to people who used it for election meddling from outside the U.S. I also find it despicable that they have a policy which allows political ads containing lies that they know are lies. They have been very biased toward just the one party spouting the huge majority of lies.

Perhaps a company that thinks that supporting a particular candidate with the use of lies is acceptable. I happen to think it's unacceptable and bad for democracy. It's the stuff that dictators do to stay in power.

I don't think that Rick will be making any changes away from the Superstition site on Facebook. Roger was the computer guy in the company. I am just happy that Rick is continuing to sell their beautiful iris. Once you have a catalog you don't need to use their Facebook site unless you want to since all of the ordering is done by snail mail.

Me, too, Leslie. Such a huge job to carry on alone, wish there was something I could do to help. Sad

I can attest that running a small business specializing in iris is a extremely time consuming and a labor intensive task.
The work load can be overwhelming at times. Not to discourage anyone from attempting it, but even as small as i am/was ( stepped away from retail for 2020 ). I, by myself, couldn't keep up with the field work/office work/orders/dealing with customers -- both valued & trusted/vengeful & nasty. I sure hope Rick has some help in continuing his enterprise, he's not young anymore, like me, and assistance could be highly valued.
I salute both him and Roger for making Superstition Gardens a respected name amongst the iris vendors, there are ever fewer and fewer these years.

Lots of losses in the hybridizer world in the last couple of years. We need to encourage up and comers to take over the reigns. I wonder if Rick could get someone to help. No one can replace Roger, but someone to help with the computer and order aspects. Or to take over the physical labor side would be even better.

I wonder if the order information could be done off site? There are a lot of people on NGA (and others) that are very computer literate.

It probably could, depends on how the inventory is listed and stored.

My Superstition catalog came today. Since there are clear text descriptions but no photos, I utilized our database for seeing photos of ones that interested me. Rick has a great selection and always sends big, healthy rhizomes.
