Thread OP

Hi, I am not sure what's going on with my palm tree and hope maybe someone can help!
Two months ago it had a pretty bad scale insect infestation (mealy bugs or something equivalent). I treated it with insect killer soap. Cleaned every leaf with it.
But now this is what is happening (pictures below). Without the bamboo stick, every branch would literally fall flat.

Thank you so much for your help!

The white stuff is more mealybugs. They like to hide deep in the crevices where the sheathes and stems emerge at the base of the plant. Remove the brown sheaths as much as possible before spraying the soap (with some dilute alcohol added, if you can find some) deep into the crevices.

It looks like your Palm is a Kentia and it is under stress for other reasons. Kentias do not like any direct sunlight. They also do not like their roots disturbed and large pots. I suspect that all three of those conditions are causing your Kentia to struggle and also making it more susceptible to pest problems.

ok re-mealy bugs! On it.
I am so Grumbling as the nursery I bought it from told me: full light and big pot! What a bunch of....

I will repot it now and deal with the mealy bugs.

Hopefully I can save it. Will, thank you so much for your help!

Regrettably, there are all too many nursery employees who are lacking knowledge about caring for plants that are kept indoors.

Although it never should have been put in that large pot, I'm not sure that downsizing it is appropriate now because that will disturb the roots even more. Just be very careful not to overwater it.
