I bought some 11 ft posts, like the kind you use to put up chain link fencing. I would like to dig a 3 ft hole and fill w water and dump in bag of mix and push the post in. Sound good so far?

Okay next I am thinking about somehow fastening strands of single wire across them about 12 inches apart all the way up (8ft). Maybe drill holes in the posts? Can you drill holes through a 9gage galvanized post? And then just thread the wire through. If I do this there won't be any tension on the posts at all. No weight will be on them.

Okay the reason for this is, I bought some 9 gauge goat fencing (4 inch squares) it weighs a TON. Now I don't see how it is any different than the weaved fabric they use for chainlink, it is pretty heavy too and you still stretch it to get it tight.

I hired someone last year to do this and he said they did a trial run w the goat wire (had only put up actual chain link before, so thought he'd toy w it) and it pulled the posts over when they put the tension on. He did several different methods and it did not work, and he decided the wire weighed too much. He backed out and refunded my money to me. Said it would not work Sad So now I plan on selling the wire and wondering if my new plan will work.

If I string the wire 12 inches apart, can the deer get in through that? Maybe I need them closer? and if the posts have no force on them, I won't need corner bracing?

Someone please help me! I have tried many things like soap, fishing twice, wireless deer fence ect, none of them have worked. I have had good luck using fabric softener but I don't want to spray food plants w that.

Here's a YouTube video to set up fencing using goat wire fencing.
Hope you find a good handyman to install it for you. Good luck. Some deer will jump over any fencing.

don't see a link for that?

I am needing something 8 ft tall. The deer here jump pretty high, I will have bushes planted on the inner side of it I hope that will discourage them as well.

Interesting video, but not tall enough for my deer issues. I am thinking of just putting the posts in and attaching some deer netting, like the plastic kind. Anyone know of a good brand for the money? Is that stuff something you have to replace often?

A common question... here's a similar thread on another forum:
https://alanbishop.proboards.c...

Your plan seems feasible... If you are only using electric fence wire... I'm not sure that you would even need the concrete mix.

but... maybe go ahead and invest in the fence wire, the charger and the necessary hangers that go with.

I'm still a big fan of using the brush line to hide the fence... or even the shrub plantings people are so fond of... it's those wide open mowed expanses that make fencing the deer out so difficult...

At my house, I'm planting hardy orange next to the deer fence as another layer of protection...

re nylon netting...
Snakes get caught in that stuff... very sad....
The nylon kinda deteriorates in the sunlight...

I do not want to do anything to hurt snakes, I do check my yard every day pretty much so if I found one I'd rescue him out of it. I wondered about birds. I am looking into using one of he heavier types, w a 2x2 space, so hopefully that won't be an issue.

Couldn't speculate about the birds.
