I have had these Incas in the ground now for over a year. They have put on a lot of growth, they are pretty much bloom size now (this is almost a dwarf species). These are known to be shy bloomers, the bloom will be red if they do decide to bloom. But even if they don;t the foliage is worth it!

I agree , gorgeous foliage.

It does resemble one. If it did not grow in the classic heliconia rhizomatous style I would think it was a calathea! They seem to top out at maybe 4 ft in height, only as tall as a Psitticorum which makes them great for small spaces. I only know a few people who have bloomed them, one in Australia and one down peninsula SO FL Ft Lauderdale area.

Hi Gina1960!
I also have this plant! I luckily came across it for sale at the Lou Gardens Annual plant sale in Orlando a few years back. I see you have it in the ground (I'm terrified to plant it 😂), have you had no issue in the winter (I'm in central fl)? There isn't a whole lot info on these plants and I'm unsure of it hardiness, so I've kept in a 5 gallon pot.

I planted three stands of this in the ground inside my greenhouse. Too iffy to plant it out. I have heard it even suffers some in Miami in winter.
