My Holy Moses doesn't fade much, nor does it "melt." It gets full afternoon sun. While it's registered as "black red with a black halo," it seems black purple most of the time. You notice the halo most on days when it's looking more red (top right pic).

Edit: I forgot my other darks. I agree with @touchofsky, Sir Modred is very dark!

and so is the mysteriously unregistered "Maya Purple" I got at Lowe's decades ago. I guess the starburst onto the midribs kinda wrecks it as a dark flower, though.

Hardy hibiscus are a hobby, but daylilies are an obsession.

Great Thread, I have a better photo of Buddy's Black Lady than I have in the database, might add this one later or see if sue will let me delete the old one. Great pics everyone!

Why delete the old one. If it shows the correct color and is a correct representation of how the bloom looked, then I like the idea of showing the bloom can have different looks.

That's very black! It's striking. Do you have something in mind to cross it with?

You are growing some beauties and making nice babies. I've been into the darker ones with teeth the last two years. If you would ever want to trade either of the first two for anything I have, I would be interested. In any case, my wish list just got bigger. Thanks for posting these.

These are my two "blackest" seedling from this year. I have a long way to go.

They both have 17-128 as one of the parents. It looks as though I need something even more black with teeth to use with these.

I only have a few fans of each, neither Black Wolf or Buddy's Vampire Lady appear to be fast increasing plants.
Thanks for liking the kids.
I do know there is a listing for Buddy's Vampire Lady on the auction now.

Are these two as black in person as they look in your photos or does it depend?

I am enjoying this thread, which I just noticed was started in 2012. Glad to see it pop up again because it has some amazing black beauties! Most of my darker shaded daylilies are not what I would call really black. But here are a few of the darkest ones I have.

Salieri - 7am on June 20 and at 11am on June 30 after a rain.
