I have inherited an established artichoke plant on an allotment I have take over here in U.K. I note that there are new smaller leaves emerging from the centre of the plants (there are 2 plants). Should I chop back all the larger leaves from last year's growth to reveal these smaller leaves? Or should I leave the leaves alone?(!). Thanks for any help and advice that can be offered.

Olly

I usually leave mine alone, but I'm in California, the land for artichokes.

I live in Minnesota and have recently learned about the incredible health benefits of artichokes. Can I plant them from seed, in a container, How early and over-winter them in the basement ? And how many plants should I plant, spacing, do you get the results the first year? Thanks.
