Howdy SW friends, I have a question for you.

I have two cement cylinder homemade pillar pots. Both have an 8" across opening and stand about 18" tall. I picked up a couple blanket flower plants and thought these cylinders would be a good home for them as they like the dry heat. I don't have any experience with blanket flower, so I thought I'd ask y'all for advise.

I'm learning they aren't picky about soil or fertilizer and will do well with minimum water. What do you think? Should I give it a go? I've seen photos of tall lanky plants and really hoping this won't be the case as a simple one foot flowering top is all I'm really after.

Thanks so much for your help! Hurray!

Ok, I went ahead and planted them. Arizona Sun blanket flower with a 12" height expectation. Yay!

I've never grown them, but have seen pics with them and they are gorgeous. I may have to give them a try too. Hurray!

Will be interesting to see how well they do in those cylinders which will get pretty hot, I imagine. Thinking

I agree, Linda, those cylinders will get very hot, indeed! Everything I've read on blanket flower suggests crappy soil, full hot sun, no fertilizer, and very low watering... challenge accepted!!! I tip my hat to you.

I will say, I did give them good potting soil instead of our shit dirt. Crossing Fingers!

Hi Karen, yes, the photos are beautiful! I'll let you all know how it goes and snap a photo either way.

I planted seeds one year in my planter boxes with poor soil and they were doing really well until the rabbits found them. They never got old enough to bloom, but they did seem to grow well from seed for me.

I'm really pleased with my poppies this year. They are magnificent! Huge plants with a deep striking orange. Definitely saving these seeds!
