Confused Amaryllis seeds from last year about 10 months old stored in pill tube in dark garage. Are these still viable healthy seeds or don't waste time on planting them? I had read where they have a short shelf life of anywhere from 2 to 3 months to maybe up to a year.

I know that in the cold they can be stored up to a year. This is how I store them.

Nothing much to lose - I would give them a try. It would be interesting to see the results - which could further our learning. Crossing Fingers!

I'll give it a few more weeks. If after 4 weeks and nothing then I'll just wait for fresh seeds from my developing seed pods. I AM going to crank up the heating mat to about 80 degrees soil temp.

A big issue for me with the floating method is mold, fungus or mildew. Now if they germinate quick, like within a week or two then maybe there isn't the mold fungus mildew issue. Or maybe lightly spray them with a fungus spray once a week? I've tried the floating method twice last year and got mold mildew both times but I also planted probably 30 seeds in seed starter bullets and only had 9 or 10 sprout and out of those I eventually wound up with only 3 healthy plants that are now almost a year old and growing strong. So I think in the future you plant a bunch of seeds because many won't make it for one reason or another. Listen to me, I'm talking like I know what I'm doing and in reality I'm just a newbie who doesn't know diddle squat about it. Just learning. Appreciate any help and advise.

After 3 weeks and with a heating mat for the last week, only one seed has sprouted out of probably 50. I'll give it a few more weeks but not looking to promising with the 10 month old seeds stored in the garage. I'll have fresh seeds in probably another month.
