I bought this bearded iris off Amazon as Starship Enterprise and anxiously awaited its blooming. A year or two later, I had this; not the correct flower. Does anyone here know the common name of this one? Any help is appreciated.

Hmmm no, definitely not the right one... Yours looks like a historic iris and my first thought was Indian Chief, but the standards on yours are too yellow:

But none are exactly right.

I looked through magenta bitones and bicolours, wine bitones and bicolours as well as rose bitones and bicolours and couldn't find any other suggestions or think of other combinations to search, maybe someone else on here can. It is possible that there is no image of it in the database of course or that you have an unnamed seedling, but I hope someone else can give you some suggestions.

Hello, I'm new so trying to figure out how to reply to a post. Hope this is right. I don't have any ideas on identifying YOUR iris, but some of those photos posted by Irislilli showed 3 varieties that look very much like one I am trying to identify if anyone can help with that.

That certainly looks like Indian Chief, en2gen. I'd buy a piece of Indian Chief and grow it next to your noid. If they bloom at the same time, bam, you have an ID!

Jendarith, I agree with Kats. It looks like Frank Adams.

Jendarith - as to yours it is probably not Indian Chief as your iris has tan standards and Indian Chief has rose pink standards. Unfortunately there are many historic iris with your similar colors. I would look into some of the suggestions with tan standards and hopefully someone who knows historics better will chime in.

En2gen - there are 3 iris that all look very much alike, so you have only a 1/3 chance that IS Indian Chief so take ID's with a grain of salt.

I think that's close enough. As said here many varieties have very similar traits, and so look the same in appearances or photos, but Crowrita with 'Sachem' and Kats with 'Frank Adams' look very much like the tan stays that I have. Thanks all of you that have given input here. I like the fact that we're bound as a group or family by such a magnificent creature the bearded iris. Successful growing to ye all my friends!

Yes, I would really like to know what other two irises look similar to Indian Chief as well.

I used to think Dauntless looked like Indian Chief until someone pointed out all the differences.. The veining on the standards is noticeable and looks like netting on IC. There is also a darker fine wire line on the edges of the standards. Dauntless standards are darker and more rosy... and the haft lines around the beard don't go down as far as Indian Chief. Overall, it looks rosier to my eye than Indian Chief. IC leans a little more towards violet. Well, that's my observation, anyway,. I'd use caution putting a definite name on an Iris from pictures (or from my opinion ).. It's always best to get one from a reliable source to grow alongside to be certain.
