Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Everybody's Talking')

Photo is red, description says pink.

This website has a pink photo nothing alike. I can't find it for sale anywhere?

The photo at that entry is incorrect for 'Everybody's Talking' which is described as: lavender pink blend above chartreuse throat

There's no reason to keep the photo owner out of this discussion. Next time, either contact the photo owner by tree-mail or compose a photo comment, which will start a thread in the Plant Photos Forum and notify @KFredenburg of the possible misidentification.

well many people post stuff and are not even active members later on, I have never contacted a photo 'owner' before when asking about the ID of a photo in the database. I didn't realize there was a written protocol for that. There won't be a next time, I won't bring up any more incorrect info anywhere on the site again. No good deed goes unpunished. I tip my hat to you.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention @Frillylily and @zuzu! I had heard somewhere that this was hemerocallis 'everybody's talking' (don't remember where), but I should have made sure that it was the correct ID before posting it to the PD *Blush* very sorry and I apologize greatly.

It happens, I have misidentified plants before myself. It can happen to anybody. There are lots of eyes here that catch things like that and try to ensure accuracy of the plant database. I believe most errors are identified and fixed. Thumbs up

The photo you posted is beautiful, I only discovered the error because I was googling the plant name to see if I could find a place to buy it. Of course now w/o knowing the real name, I guess that's not going to happen!

Have a good evening! Smiling

I don't see a polite request to involve the person who took the picture as punishment. I would think it could be helpful in resolving the disputed ID of the plant in question, actually. If someone doubts the ID of a photo I have uploaded to the database, I would appreciate hearing about it, as a basic courtesy. Maybe I could learn something.

You could just start a thread with the exact same text below the picture in question, instead of in the Plant Database forum, and the person who uploaded it would automatically get a notice, without you having to alter your approach in any other way. Sounds trivially easy to me. Rolling my eyes.

I'm sorry I thought that ensuring the correct ID of plants was one of the main purposes of the Plant Database Forum. I did not see/read a polite request anywhere. What I read seemed more like a snarky demand to me.

I did not in any way intend to not involve the owner of the photo or to cut them out of the discussion. I assumed that if it was obvious the photo was incorrect that an admin would privately message the photo owner so as to avoid them feeling called out or embarrassed. I understand that sometimes a photo is in question and not easily determined if it is correct, but that did not seem the case here. I thought it was pretty cut and dry. Seemed trivially easy to me. Rolling my eyes.

As I stated, I will no longer interfere.

I think at times we perceive the tone of the written word in a different manner than it was actually meant. There have been times over the years when comments have been made (directed at both me, as well as other members) that I was taken aback by. LOL, I have to admit though, it's not unusual for me to hear the spoken word differently than how it was meant. I've been married to the same man for going on 51 years and there are still times when he will make a comment that I take the wrong way and he tells me "That's not what I said" and I respond with "Well, that's what I heard!" Smiling Face to face communication can be difficult at times so it doesn't surprise me that online communication can be misperceived.

My thought is that many members (even long term members) like @Frilylily may be unaware that the database photo comment area is where we should make notification about a possible incorrect photo. Perhaps she didn't realize she was supposed to enlarge the database photo and then scroll all the way to the very bottom of that page to report an incorrect entry and that it would then show up in the "Plant Photos" forum. Group hug

Well said, Lin.

I can see how Zuzu's post may have come across as blunt, but I am sure she wouldn't have meant it that way.

@KFredenburg, your photo was moved from the incorrect entry and I can't recall the exact coloration/pattern of the bloom in your photo but it reminded me of 'Frans Hals' that I used to grow so I sent you a tree mail message with the database link so you can see if you think it's a match.

Yes! Thumbs up

I did look on the main entry page for a way to report the issue, but didn't see anything, and I was entirely unaware that I could click on it and do that. Also I have posted this same issue I think on the site forum in the past and never had anyone tell me that it is not the 'correct' way to do it. I honestly did not think this was a big deal. I was only trying to help, but apparently my gift horse needed a dentist Shrug!

Hi all Smiling
I just wanted to provide a little information. My family and I really enjoy this site. But my 13 year old son, who was just 12 in March, enjoys it the most. The majority of the posts made under my account were by Johannian, but now he uses his account @Johannian. He took the majority of the photos and posted them. He is so excited about his banner that has been approved for May, he is counting the days Rolling on the floor laughing We did not take any offense to the correction. It is very important that we have the correct names. Therefore we are grateful to people like you frilylily who let us know. It would be a shame if you no longer helped the rest of us on the site. With all respect to you, I do not believe Zuzu meant any offense. It is difficult to be a moderator and be direct without sounding somewhat offensive. I try to teach my son to let an offense go as much as it is possible. Would it be possible to do that this time? We are very thankful for all the information we have received from all the members and have learned a lot. Thanks to you all!

oh, yes, were you the one who rolled your eyes in your comment to me, with the statement about how 'trivially easy' it is to do it right.... I didn't see that as trying to help. Not sure how quoting the dictionary is constructive either Shrug!

I am unwatching this thread and will not respond to any further comments. I'll just move on now and I sure won't be getting involved with anything related to the database again.

In the last year or so, I've kept a list of 13 or so, mistakes in the Database, either misnaming or having 2 identical entries. I was never sure how to address these errors. In the past, I have had help by passing them on to a Moderator, who could take care of this very diplomatically. But I know Moderators are incredibly busy and I cherish their dedication to keeping things running smoothly.

I will eventually try this new approach, and hope I don't ruffle feathers. Whistling
